An Interview with Hanwei's Paul Chen! :: Posted By Mike on Sep 11th, 2007
We were lucky enough to ask Paul Chen of Hanwei himself some questions about Hanwei history and its future plans. Paul is quite candid in the interview, in it you can find some plans for future releases and other interesting tidbits of information. Our thanks to Paul Chen and the staff at CAS for letting us take some time out of their busy lives to answer these questions :)
The full interview can be found here.

Welcome Rammstein :: Posted By Mike on Jul 6th, 2007
As many of you would know, we are attempting to expand ausblade to cover the Medieval/European Swords aswell as just the Japanese swords we all love.
Due to this, and the fact that I have about absolutely no idea about the swords from Europe, we decided to bring someone in to help us out, hence its my pleasure to announce that Grayson has joined AusBlade as our resident Euro expert. Known as Rammstein on many sword forums, his demostrated knowledge of the area made him the perfect choice :-)
Welcome aboard Rammstein!

Big Thanks :: Posted By Mike and Ron on Jul 1st, 2007
Well the site has bee around for a few months now, in that time weve gone from a static forum to what you see today with the popular sworddb, the wishlist and ownership lists and the like which has made AusBlade into a more user intraction site.
As a result of this, particularly the SwordDB, the site is now growing and is at least doubling in the the number of unique visitors a month. So on behalf of Ron and myself (Mike) id like to thank all the visitors that visit Ausblade, and particularly those that have exposed AusBlade to other people.
Special thanks to Paul Southren of Sword Buyers Guide, who has done more to plug us than anyone else..
If you have any suggestions, correspondance or criticism for AusBlade please feel free to contact myself (Mike) via http://www.ausblade.com/page/contact/ or a not in the forums..
Onwards and Upwards!
Mike and Ron

Updates :: Posted By Mike on Jun 14th, 2007
A Couple of Updates...
Were currently in the process of adding new items to the SwordDB that were either overlooked previously or have subsequently come out...
AusBlade also will soon feature a European Sword Database! We will be making it public inside a fortnight, though it may not be completely populated. Japanese Swords were easy, we knew what we were talking about :-)
We've also just added the updated version of Erick Nelsons' Construction of the Shinken In the Modern Age. Previously known as "Construction of the Bingo Mihara Shinken" this revised guide takes you through making a sword from the bare blade and habaki, including aspects such as tsuka-maki, making the tsuka, making the saya and even polishing to bring out the hamon. It can be found in the Articles section. Many thanks to the author for allowing us to host this valuable resource.

Reviews and SwordDB linked! :: Posted By AusBlade on Jun 1st, 2007
The AusBlade team has been looking at how to link the various features of AusBlade to provide better navigation around the site.
As a result, we've linked the SwordDB to the Sword Reviews section, as such, now when you pull up a entry in the SwordDB, if there is a corresponding review (or reviews) therey'll be a direct link to it. No more hunting the site for info on a particular blade!
If you would like to submit a review, sign up and post it in the review forums and well put it up on the site, the DB is becoming pretty popular now and its a good way to get exposure...

The Smith Directory! :: Posted By Mike on May 30th, 2007
Another new feature :)
Up the top you might have noticed a new smith directory section, this is a place where smiths and aussie sword services people can have their own page to show you what they do, give thememselves a bit of a plug etc etc. The section is in its infancy at the moment, though we hope to eventually make it a true directory of Aussie SwordsSmiths...
If you are a swordsmith, polisher, restorer etc etc and would like a page get in contact with Mike and well set up access to your page :)

New Feature Announcement :: Posted By Mike on Apr 28th, 2007
Double the fun this time with two new features!
The first is forum integration, previously you required 2 accounts for AusBlade, one for the site and one for the forums. We've changed this now and both the site and the forum work off the forum accounts, hence if you have a forum account no action is necessary on your part and youve got full access to the site features!!
The Second feature is the ability to create a personal "My Collection" page. Its easy to do, just click the "Add to my Collection" link in the swords in the SwordDB. In the Control Panel you can then decide to publish it or not...
An example Collection page can be seen at
http://www.ausblade.com/mycollection/2/
As always thanks for visiting AusBlade and if you have any suggestions feel free to contact me :-)

Update: Extended Wishlist Capability :: Posted By Mike on Apr 8th, 2007
A few weeks ago we asked if people would like to be able to publish their wishlist to make it publicly accessible, we are pleased to announce that this is now a possibility :-)
By default your wishlists are private, however to publish them just log into your site control panel and select "Publish Wishlist". Publicly viewable wishlists can be turned on and off at will...
Enjoy! :D
