The following is a Glossary of terms that are commonly used to refer to parts of the tsuka. This list is by no means definitive but in keeping with the spirit of the Beginners section weve listed the major components.

Tsuka- Refers to the whole handle assembly of a japanese sword.
Menuki- Decorative Ornament under the Tsuka-Ito
Same-Dried Rayskin, applied to the wood core to provide grip and strength
Habaki-Blade Collar
Meguki-A bamboo pin that holds the tang of the blade to the tsuka.
Tsuba-The Handle Guard, Tsuba are quite collectible in themselves.
Fuchi/Kashira-Endcaps of the tsuka, usually a matching pair they provide structural integrity to the tsuka.
Seppa-Spacers that sit either side of the tsuka to tighten the fittings.
