Yes its a pole arm feast! After the Dynasty Nagimaki I just had to do its close relative the Naginata.
The Naginata uses 1065 high carbon steel with a differentually harded edge in a regualar gunome pattern. The blade is 51cm forged in Unokubi-zukuri with about 2.5cm sori giving it a nice gracefull line. On one side there are 2 small hi and and engraved horinomo of some kanji which are filled with red laquer. The pole or ebu is 150cm long and tear drop shaped, one mekugi retains the blade. the fittings are all done in a dark patina, the large knob on the end and the tsuba seem to be an iron alloy (attract a magnet) while the others seem to be brass. This is the second version of this peice, the first had all polished brass fittings which I thught were a bit gaudy so I was happy to see it change. The tsuba is almost a mushashi style and is both thicker and larger in diameter than a katana peice.Saya is a simple textured flat black sheath.
With a retail around the $800 mark every collection needs at leat one pole arm! Talk to Cutting Edge, Sabyr Imports or your local Hanwei dealer for a price.
