Dragonfly Forge Naginata Authored By Mike on May 31st, 2007
Last week i got a package in the mail, i was waiting for this package probably more than i have any other because it contained what i consider to be my first custom blade from Terry Raw from Dragonfly Blades, a up and coming smith located right here in our very own country! (Not to be confused with James Raw aka. RawBlades in South Africa, though put their blades side by side and you may be pushing to tell which belongs to who :D)

Terry was refreshing to deal with, im sure Ron will attest to this the sword community is filled with people who have no idea about customer service, terry on the other hand answered every email bloody quickly (always inside 24 hours, often a matter of minutes). Terry also dosnt mess around, is always honest. I received more customer service on this blade then i did for pieces that were much much more expensive...

The Blade itself, the blade is a naginata, i *think* (feel free too corect me terry) in the style of the mid to late Kamakura period, forged in 1045 Round Bar stock. Terry made a textured very well fitting Habaki, polished it to a very good polish and made a lacquered shirasaya for it. The Tang is also chucky and a perfect length for the size of the blade.

Its a little bigger than a Hanwei Practical Plus Tanto, the hamon on the thing can only be described as wild, i wanted something a little different than the typical gunome-notare (wavy) that seems to dominate the sword market.

Ill let pics do the rest, if you have any questions or want some more pics just let me know.

^Best shot i could get of the wicked hamon, dosent do it justice though

^I panicked when i saw the green on the PPT too but its not on the sword, its just the camera :)
