yah its always too thin only about 4 mill for a decent blade you need at least 6 to 8 to start with as you forge you draw it from that down the lenth of the blade till you end up with 6mm at the haibacki and about 4 at the kissak dont like the gas for forging it wasts to much between heats were the coke is more economical

winging is a national pastime to stir up you bloody Colonial yoiks altho you seem to be catching on latley

i see your still here after the dummy spit hey we all have to let go sometime good onya as they say here go for it im thick skinned mate water off a ducks back , been there done that at my age i can laugh you still have to get to my age , and with the way this modern world is going fucking good luck

cheers mate terry

If the steel is too thin why don`t you weld it ? AKC or Tharwa Valley Forge offer steel thicker than 4mm.
If the coke is so economical don`t whinge all the time about coke being so expensive.

What happened to your tamahagane , make some blades out of that ?

I like you alot Terry but jeez you know how to whinge !

Hey matt got to do somethin at my age, now you young bucks wanna take that away too. i think i got the travle bug mate , never did anything with the shit i made + its been to fucking hot to even go outside .
I only winge to give the guy's on here something to have a go at what else is there on here exept talk to the dead or blow hot air LOL , ill check thos places out again its a while since i was in contact with Keith in WA
last i heard he was the president of the AKC in Perth ,
it was not the fact the coke is so expensive it was the fact that no cunt in aussie will like an increase in the price of blades to cover the rising cost of making them , as glen said Most australians whant stuff for nothing or less than that , but i dont like yanks so wont sell to the pricks even if they were interested ,and there are only one or two good customers out there with limited funds like yourself and tough times have hit.
the future is not certain and even if it was somebody would fuck it for the rest of us ,

so when you gonna stop winging and go back to GEEE TO FUCKING LONG good fishing on the jetty for barracooda
hows the good lady keeping mate :!:

terry wrote:You could be right maro mate but i guess us smiths /engravers will always be here to help or offer stuff but even forging blades is becomming pointless when theres nobody to see them or buy them its a lot of outlay and effort to create a blade to have it sit around waiting for a buyer but glade to see you have not forgotten us .
cheers mate

Popped on here for a look after lurking and not posting ever, so one more 'live one' here

 thanks Terry, good to see AusBlade is still kicking. keep thinking of Graham AKA 'Ausblade' the user on Laventrix.

My collection is rather meagre. Just a couple of beaters and one of those metal-bladed super flexible 'nerf' TaiChi swords for Tai Chi practice.

I read one of your posts about $2000 (AUD?) being the 'real' entry level mark re quality production swords. Don't know if this was in reference to Japanese style blades, but I'm assuming so. I was wondering what sort of production blades were worth looking at , keeping in mind that the tsukas on production blades are apparently not too flash & may need to be tossed and a good one custom fitted, with decent skin bamboo pegs etc etc.
